Porcelain Enamel Lights Offer Refined Rustic Look

For business customers, Barn Light Electric’s Commercial Division assists designers, architects, and other professionals in specifying stylish, high-performance lights for businesses across the United States and Canada. When the owner of Canary Grill needed lighting for his new restaurant in West Virginia, he turned to Tanya Grim at Lighting Environments who represents Barn Light Electric in the Mid Atlantic region.
“The client was very laid back when it came to the lighting,” Tanya says. “Designer Sue Marks of The Design Center and I came up with the best solutions for the restaurant.” With a dark facade on the exterior, the pair decided to go with a pop of color in the lighting — a distinctive nod to canary yellow.
Four Union Wall Sconces grace the exterior and are customized with 12″ shades and our high-gloss porcelain enamel Yellow finish that will never fade.
“We chose porcelain enamel for one simple reason — it is beautiful,” Tanya notes. “I didn’t want this restaurant to have a rugged feel in spite of being inspired by the mining industry. I love how clean these fixtures make the space along with the beautiful yellow popping through as an accent.”
Inside the restaurant, porcelain enamel pendants offer focused lighting over the booths and tables. These Original™ Warehouse Pendant Lights feature 14″ shades, the same porcelain Yellow finish as the exterior lights, and standard black cords. Designer Sue Marks loves the style which she describes as not too rustic and a bit upscale.
“The barn style just fit,” Sue says. “It has the charm and character needed for the restaurant, and with the awesome finishes, it doesn’t looked dated or too country. It’s timeless!”
The vaulted ceiling required larger scale pendants so the team specified Bomber LED Pendant Lights to provide plenty of lighting. These handspun pendants sport 17″ shades, the signature Yellow finish, and a 3000 lumen LED. And thanks to the integrated LED module that provides more than 50,000 hours of illumination, the owners won’t have to worry about changing light bulbs!
Over the bar area, The Original™ 3-Light Stem Mount Pendant features three RLM warehouse shades on one rugged stem mounting. The three 16″ shades throw generous light to the bar and complement the other vintage-style fixtures in the space.
“I love Barn Light Electric because they can tie in a rustic feel, an industrial look, and a clean modern appearance using the same exact fixture,” Tanya explains. ” To me, it’s an industry chameleon. You dictate the environment you’re trying to achieve by what you surround the fixture with. The lights bring that missing piece to the project.”
To bring yet another subliminal message in the space, Tanya and Sue commissioned a local artist to create bird cages reminiscent of the “canary in the coal mine.” Barn Light Electric created a three-light pendant suspended within the cage for another touch of lighting in the space.
“Having American-made lighting was absolutely appealing to me, but also the ease of working with Barn Light Electric,” Tanya says. “Because of the color options, the ease of customizing, and the level of customer service from Barn Light, there was no need for me to look anywhere else for the lighting that I chose for this space.”
