Handcrafted Lighting Creates Warm, Inviting Look for Log Home Renovation

Chelsey and her husband were thrilled to purchase and move into the family home located on a ranch in Nanton, Alberta, Canada. Built by Chelsey’s father-in-law more than 40 years ago, the log home had undergone a renovation, but the couple still had work to do.

“The house survived a fire seven years ago,” Chelsey says. “Even with the renovation, we had a lot of issues and ended up having to redo the plumbing. At that point, we decided to do a full renovation and make the home feel like ours.”

Chelsey opted for clean lines throughout to create a warm, welcoming space. When choosing lighting to coordinate with new colors and hardware throughout the home, Chelsey looked for fixtures that could be easily customized. A friend recommended Barn Light Electric.

“I absolutely love the Drum Pendant,” Chelsey says. “It is such a classy fixture. One of the main reasons for incorporating this light over the kitchen island was the customization of it. I wanted to tie in the mixed metals of my appliances with the raw copper fitter.” Chelsey chose opaque glass, a Raw Copper fitter, four painted bands of Black, and standard black cords.

“I love the opaque glass with the painted bands,” she adds. “I thought the horizontal lines on the light would be appealing with the horizontal logs.

Over the sink, Chelsey chose a Sinclair Industrial Pendant Light. She customized this handcrafted fixture with a 10″ shade, a porcelain enamel White finish, and a Brass socket with a paddle switch. Chelsey notes that she was attracted to the simplicity of the pendant plus the touch of brass complements the brass and copper hardware in the kitchen.

In the dining room, Chelsey makes a statement with a 28″ Loma Chain Hung Pendant Light. Another smaller, 20″ Loma Chain Hung Pendant hangs by a window nearby.

“I wanted to use the same pendants because they are in the same room, but add some interest with a different size of shade,” Chelsey explains. “The black exterior with the copper interior looks stunning!”

Chelsey stayed with the copper look in the couple’s office which features a custom sliding door crafted with salvaged tiles with copper accents. An Original™ Warehouse Pendant Light, customized with an 18″ shade and an Oil-Rubbed Copper finish, complements the warm wood walls and ceiling.

In the master bedroom, two more Original™ Warehouse Pendant Lights add a rustic touch. Chelsey customized these two pendants with a porcelain Black finish. The fixture over the bed has a 16″ shade while a larger 20″ shade is in the center of the space.

“Because our house is a log home, we had to work with the existing electrical,” Chelsey notes. “Our house is very dark so I added the bigger pendant in the center of our room for more light.”
