Industrial Lighting Takes Center Stage in Virginia Remodel

The term “industrial” gets bandied about like hot gossip at a dinner party these days, and it certainly seems to be the trend du jour for many interior designers and home décor enthusiasts. It’s no surprise since the industrial look is hard-working, budget-friendly, and adaptable to so many spaces.

A quick browse through Pinterest (is there such a thing?!) shows that industrial styling can take on a wide range of looks — from repurposed metal bar stools in a farmhouse kitchen to sleek, polished metal bookshelves in a more modern industrial loft.

When Lindsay and Sue tackled a remodeling project in their Alexandria, Virginia, home, they liked the industrial look but wanted to keep it clean and classy with a pop of color. For their garage, the pair chose the Streamline Industrial Guard Sconce to flank the door. These two wall sconces are finished in Barn Red with a standard cast guard and frosted glass.

“We wanted to keep the garage lighting simple, but sturdy, and bold with the red color,” Lindsay says. “We toyed with going Galvanized for these lights but felt a classic color would really look good outside.”

Around the corner, an Original™ Warehouse Gooseneck Light highlights the doorway and is also finished in Barn Red to match the wall sconces. This American-made barn light is hand crafted with a 14″ shade supported by a Galvanized G11 gooseneck arm. The fixture comes on automatically in the evening and goes off at dawn thanks to the integrated dusk-to-dawn photocell.

Inside, Lindsay and Sue kicked the industrial style up a notch in the master bath with the Brisbane Gooseneck Light. This rugged wall light features both up and down lighting thanks to its combination warehouse shade and cast-guard-and-glass design. These lights are customized with a Teal finish color, Galvanized G16 gooseneck arm and clear glass for plenty of light.

“We wanted the master bath to be a little different but have a fun color,” Lindsay explains. “Being one of the few Jacksonville Jaguar fans, I got the color choice on these. We’re still trying to find towels to match!”

The guest bath also sports a new Brisbane Gooseneck Light, this one with a Charcoal Granite finish on its 12″ shade.

In the nearby laundry room, they chose the complementary look of the Sydney Flush Mount Pendant, another barn style fixture with a guard-and-glass design. Flush mount lights like this Sydney show that you don’t have to sacrifice style in tight spaces.

“We didn’t want to venture too far from what we chose in the guest bathroom, plus we needed the flush mount because of the space issues with the appliances,” Lindsay notes. The couple is thrilled with how everything came together in their remodel.

“The lights are absolutely the look we were going for and look phenomenal with our décor,” Lindsay says. “Barn Light Electric was one of the only places that conveyed quality with the look we wanted. People will often notice the lights before they notice that we moved a wall!”
