Blast of Color Adds Warmth, Style to Dining Room
When we visited Andreas two years ago in this post, he had just renovated a Morton barn on his property in Pennington, New Jersey. Part of the renovation included an 800-foot addition which houses a kitchen and dining space. Andreas tackled the kitchen lighting first with Wallaby Flush Mount Pendant Lights and Brewster Pendant Lights. The next step was adding dining tables to the space.
“This is our main kitchen so everything happens here — cooking, baking, homework, projects, and entertaining,” Andreas says. “There’s 15 feet of counter space and 15 feet of dining tables. The tables are built in sections so we can move them into various configurations depending on what we need.”
A long-time Barn Light customer, Andreas knew where to turn for the next round of lighting.
“Barn Light Electric has the colors, sizing, quality finishes, fabrication, and the ability to customize each part of the light,” he explains. “Being able to order all of my lighting from one source was a major plus.” Due to the size of the dining area, Andreas needed large fixtures. And with the industrial feel of the kitchen, he wanted to add some color to the adjoining space.
“I needed BIG!” he notes. “The size and color of the fixture were paramount. I needed big, colorful gumdrops in the sky!” Andreas found his eye candy with the Loma Chain Hung Pendant Light. He customized these three pendants with generous 28″ shades and grey cloth cords. Since the Loma can be customized with different colors on the interior and exterior, Andreas chose the Sunflower finish for the interior of all three shades, but went with Magenta, Orange, and Teal for the exterior finish colors.
“The Loma fixtures were selected for a color pop and to warm the space,” Andreas says. “This needed to be a fun moment because the same color would be boring. It still brings a smile to all of our faces when you glance up and see the glow of the three colored lights.”
Andreas adds that he, his wife, and daughter pored over the color samples sent by Barn Light to choose the finishes noting that it was an intense few days.
“The Sunflower is the only constant,” he explains, “but we chose that because the glow is magical.” Once they selected the three exterior colors, Andreas used complementary resin colors to fill the voids in the dining room tables. One table has teal resin, one has orange, and two others have different shades of purple. Colorful indeed!
“A lot of thought went into the design and material selections for the house,” Andreas says. “It’s been a long process. I remember coming across the Barn Light website and saying — that’s it — they have everything I need to make the kitchen work. It’s so nice to see the design come to life and the happiness it brings. Gumdrops in the sky!”
