Rustic Pendants Accent Central Texas Ranch Breezeway

Architects, it seems, are always coming up with new and creative ways to design homes that take into account not only the environment in which the home is built, but the homeowner’s budget as well. The Porch House project, designed by Lake | Flato Architects is one such example. Instead of starting from scratch, the architects took factory-built rooms, such as living and bedroom spaces, then added custom designed elements built on sight to connect the cost-saving, pre-built pieces. These connecting elements are often porches, breezeways, overhangs, and carports. This photo shows a breezeway crafted from rustic corrugated metal and wood — very fitting for a ranch in central Texas.

Vintage Barn Lighting Completes Look of Historic Health Facility

The term “health care facility” conjures up all sorts of sterile images of white tile flooring, stainless steel fixtures, and fluorescent lights. The newly opened Parrish Health Village West, located in our hometown of Titusville, Florida, smashes that image completely. The new campus, designed in a 19th century architectural style, offers health care programs for seniors such as disease prevention, health education, senior wellness, and lifestyle education. Three of our community’s most notable historic houses were renovated as part of the campus, and Barn Light Electric was proud to supply some classic vintage lighting and other fixtures to complete the historic look.

Rustic Sconces, Angle Shades for Historic Biltmore Village

America’s largest home, aka the Biltmore Mansion, may get all the publicity, but the quaint Biltmore Village just outside the gates to the Estate is equally charming and was one of America’s first planned communities. George Vanderbilt envisioned the Village as a planned, self-sustaining community whose formal appearance would not only complement his beautiful estate but provide rental income. Almost all of the original buildings survive from the 1890’s, and today, Biltmore Village is a distinctive shopping district with independent retailers and fine restaurants located on tree-lined streets with brick sidewalks and open air dining.

Professional’s Corner | Q&A with VAI Studio in Hawaii

In the tiny village of Olowalu on the island of Maui, a casual roadside café called Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop opened last November. With the style of an old plantation store, Leoda’s serves sandwiches, sweet and savory pies, fresh-baked breads, and salads made from local ingredients. The remodeled space was created by Jeremy Stoddart, project manager for VAI Studio. In addition to using reclaimed and recycled materials throughout, Jeremy chose a variety of barn lights, porcelain warehouse shades, rustic sconces, and commercial grade ceiling fans from Barn Light Electric to create the warm and welcoming atmosphere at Leoda’s.

Glass Shade Pendant Adds Vintage Charm to Lakeside Cottage

vintage_pendant_ruffled_satin_glass_kitchen.jpgArchitects see it all the time. A classic but tired structure has outlived its usefulness, and the owners want a new building on the same spot. Such was the case on Maine’s sparkling Sebago Lake where a new camp would rise on the existing footprint of the old. The owners wanted a modest yet upscale, 3-bedroom getaway in 1,400 square feet of living space. Views of the lake were paramount while still maintaining privacy. Read More »

Warehouse Shades, Sconces, & Fans Complete Reality Remodel

In yesterday’s blog, we took you to the set of DIY’s reality show House Crashers where Barn Light Electric gooseneck warehouse shades took center stage on the exterior of this dramatic remodel. Today we venture inside where modern ceiling fans, rustic sconces, and more warehouse shades play starring roles. House Crashers Host Josh Temple jumped on the opportunity to bring in his crew to make their dreams come true.
