Here at Barn Light Electric we often get frequently asked questions, one of these questions pertains to our pendant light fixtures and the canopy option. We had touched on this topic in a previous blog post that detailed our Stem Mounting Pendant Light Fixtures, and the variety of choices offered when ordering your light. To determine the canopy that will be required for your pendant, you will need to figure out what type of ceiling you have. If you are mounting your pendant on a flat ceiling then you will require a stem mount canopy that will mount over a standard electrical box. This mount will connect to the stem and allow it to hang in place without moving. The other option available with a stem is the stem hang straight canopy. This canopy connects the stem to a standard electrical box on a ceiling with a slope or angle, allowing the light to hang straight. We recently received some feedback on one of our Warehouse Pendant Lights. Our customer needed something that was unique, but also high in quality. With strong winds in his area and only yards from a saltwater river, he requested a pendant light that could withstand his environment. We suggested our 16″ Warehouse Shade on a 3/4″ IP Stem and Back Plate (Custom Option Available). He also went with a Large Cast Guard and Ribbed Glass Option, all in our Galvanized Finish. Overall, this customer was highly satisfied with Barn Light Electric’s quality and customer service.

Often our lighting customers inquire about stem mounting our Light Fixtures. Typically, any of our shades can be stem mounted instead of cord hung. Stem mounting a light fixture has several advantages. First, a stem mounted fixture is rated for wet locations where as a cord hung light fixture will not have this rating. Home areas such as the kitchen, bathroom and outdoor areas (porches and garages) that may be susceptible to moisture will be best served with a stem mounted light fixture. Stems for pendants can be manufactured to any length and finish desired. However, it is recommended to know the exact stem length because the stem will be threaded on both ends. Most of our customers do not have the ability to cut a stem and re-thread it to the desired length.
