Classic Black Porcelain Warehouse Shades for Ice Cream Shop

On a recent trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, we were struck by the gaudy attempts of some businesses to dress up the old storefront to garner attention from the thousands of passersby each day. This ice cream shop, however, struck us as a classic black-and-white design that evokes memories of the soda fountain days when a root beer float cost a quarter, and you sat at the counter on short stools that twirled around. The checkboard pattern breaks up the solid black, and the window boxes full of seasonal flowers add a splash of color. And to top it off like a cherry on a sundae, beautiful porcelain barn lights!

Rustic Galvanized Barn Lights for Earthy, Organic Grocery

The current trend of eating healthier, locally grown foods may seem like a relatively new phenomenon but it was more than 30 years ago that Whole Foods Market began its business with the concept of delivering the highest quality, least processed, most flavorful, and natural foods. Now with more than 300 stores in North America and the UK, Whole Foods Market is committed to the support of organic farming and sustainable agriculture in every community they serve. One of their stores, Greenlife Grocery in Asheville, North Carolina, offers the very best in local produce, meats, cheeses, and wines on their shelves as well as in their adjoining café. It was in the café and on the outside patio that we spotted some galvanized barn lights much like our Barn Light Warehouse Pendant with the stem mount option.

Vintage Warehouse Shades for Rustic East Village Eatery

When the creators of the Northern Spy Food Company opened their doors three years ago, they wanted to bring a bit of country charm straight to the urban heart of New York City. A small neighborhood restaurant located in the East Village, the eatery is named after one of New York State’s classic heirloom apples. The restaurant’s design embraces the concept of using reclaimed materials, and you can see the effects from floor to ceiling. Customers stroll on reclaimed hickory boards, the old brick walls are painted white to breathe air into the space, a pillar wrapped in rope has a rustic feel, the retail cubbies are crafted from an old chicken coop, and the dining room tables are made from salvaged bowling alley lanes. East Village residents have never seen anything quite like this, and they can’t seem to get enough!

Porcelain Deep Bowl Pendants for Rustic Mountain Cabin

Just a couple of days ago, we featured a cabin in our Industrial Farmhouse blog that was built using the latest advances in green building. Many architects, builders, and developers in western North Carolina participate in the North Carolina Healthy Built Homes Program which certifies homes that reduce energy and water usage, promote renewable energy use, help protect the land and natural resources, and reduce pollution and waste during the manufacturing and construction phases. This home, located in Black Mountain, was built by Earthtone Builders and achieved a “Gold” certification. It features passive solar, radiant floor heat, solar hot water, non-toxic finishes, locally sourced wood, bamboo floors, and Energy Star appliances.

Barn Pendants and Chandelier for Shaker Style VT Home

The Shaker style is admired by many for its simplicity, quality, and functionality. First introduced into this country in the late 1700s, Shaker designs have inspired many modern designers with its traditional, understated detailing. This home in Vermont takes its architectural cues from polyform Shaker barns. The center structure of the home is composed of 12 posts in a ring which give a rustic, rugged feel to the space. The kitchen, shown here, is full of custom cabinets and light fixtures that also reflect a simpler time and style.

Porcelain Pendants for Updated Nevada Lake Home

While we love all things “vintage” here at Barn Light Electric, sometimes an older home just needs updating. Such was the case for this 1960s-era structure in Glenbrook, Nevada which recently underwent a transformation. The homeowners went from a dark, outdated interior into a 3,700-square-foot, light-filled lake house. While freshening everything from the walls to the furniture to the lighting, the homeowners turned to the past for inspiration and installed reclaimed redwood bath consoles, recycled glass countertops, and repurposed furniture.
