Rustic Pendant Lighting Dresses Up the Market Center

In yesterday’s blog we found some tasteful rustic sconces and gooseneck angle shades at the Market Center located in historic Biltmore Village just outside the gates of the Biltmore mansion, the largest home ever built in America. When George Vanderbilt created his vast estate in Asheville, North Carolina he also built a peaceful community just outside the gates to complement his landholdings and to supply a source of rental income. Today, Biltmore Village offers an array of shopping and dining establishments including one of the most elegant McDonald’s restaurants in the world featuring a grand player piano, vaulted ceilings, and fireplaces. The golden arches are actually golf leaf! blue_collar_pendant_angle_shades_commercial.jpg

Rustic Sconces, Angle Shades for Historic Biltmore Village

America’s largest home, aka the Biltmore Mansion, may get all the publicity, but the quaint Biltmore Village just outside the gates to the Estate is equally charming and was one of America’s first planned communities. George Vanderbilt envisioned the Village as a planned, self-sustaining community whose formal appearance would not only complement his beautiful estate but provide rental income. Almost all of the original buildings survive from the 1890’s, and today, Biltmore Village is a distinctive shopping district with independent retailers and fine restaurants located on tree-lined streets with brick sidewalks and open air dining.

Angle Shades, Rustic Sconces Accent Hip NC Music Club

The building on the corner of Biltmore and Hilliard Avenues holds many fond memories for the people of Asheville. In the 1950s, kids spent hours skating at the roller rink there while Mom and Dad shopped the downtown department stores. Later, a variety of R&B and soul clubs took over the space, while disco and funk roared from the elevated DJ booth throughout the 70s. The nightclub’s popularity eventually faded, but thanks to a downtown redevelopment project, the Orange Peel was reopened and in its first three years of operation was recognized as one of the best live music venues in the nation by USA Today and Rolling Stone Magazine.

Black Barn Lighting Accents Colorful Facade of Artists’ Studios

When we visited the Pink Dog Creative Studios back in a March blog, there was just so much to see and barn lights to admire we couldn’t cover it all in one post. So today, we’re heading back over to Depot Street in Asheville to show you more. The two artists who created this strip of studio space and shops are absolutely not afraid of color. In fact, they embrace every hue and splash it all around to bring life to what once was a litter-strewn avenue of abandoned warehouses.

Emblem Shades Highlight One Stop Convenience Store

A couple of weeks ago on the Porcelain Barn Lights Blog, we visited KD’s One Stop, a charming country store in the Fairview community of western North Carolina. The front porch of KD’s features a parade of porcelain warehouse shades similar to our Benjamin® 16″ Sky Chief Porcelain Stem Mount Light in a handsome shade of vintage green. Today we check out what’s above that porch roof which are Emblem Shades in the same vintage green. These not only match the classic tin roof but also complement the colors of the KD’s sign as well.
