Steve and his wife Debbie knew they had found something special when they were interviewing potential contractors to build their new home.

“One of them stood on the site and said, ‘I’ve been driving by this field for 20 years and always wanted to build a house right here,'” Steve relates. The coveted spot in Freeport, Maine, is close to downtown and is the site of their now almost-complete modern farmhouse home. The building process is fraught with constant decision making, but for Steve and Debbie, the choice for lighting was an easy one. They had discovered Barn Light Electric when they worked on a previous home and knew they wanted more.

As long as man has been building shelters for himself, stone has been a material of choice. Not only is stone durable, fire proof, and an excellent insulator, it won’t decompose over time like other materials and is virtually maintenance free. When the creative minds at Sullivan Building and Design Group in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, had the opportunity to renovate an early 1800s stone house, they didn’t try to upgrade the design but instead renovated back to its original state complete with handmade lathe and horsehair plaster. An old storefront attached to the stone house was also renovated.

When we first visited Nickelfish back in a February 2012 post, this interactive design and marketing company in Mendham, New Jersey, had just finished renovating their office space with our Outback Gooseneck Lights and Outback Pendants. Located in the Thomas Wolfe House, the office is in the Mendham Historic Business District and looks very much as it did in the 1930s when barn lights were first being manufactured. Today, Nickelfish has expanded their operations into the building next door, explains Kelly Mills, office manager for Nickelfish.
