Most people have trouble finding room in the garage for two cars much less 12. When this car enthusiast’s collection in upstate New York kept growing, he tapped the same architect who built his home to create a unique space for his cars. The home was built in 2000 by Dan Contelmo Architects who wanted the new structure, crafted in a barn style, to complement the home but feel as though it could have been there even longer. Dan chose our Laramie Gooseneck to highlight both the interior and exterior.
When homeowners Carrie and Chris purchased their new home in Rhode Island, they had one goal in mind — to make it their own and to have fun in the process.
“We purposely bought the worst house in the best neighborhood with the intention of starting over from scratch,” Carrie says. “Our house is more than 125 years old and we’ve been conscious of its history when making our design decisions.” While the house renovations took priority, Carrie didn’t ignore the details of the detached garage which also needed updating. People throw the term “classic” around to describe a lot of different things — from ’60s rock music to Roman civilization to an antique Ford Thunderbird. The term classic light gets used quite a bit around here and often pertains to the RLM warehouse shade designs from the 1930s. These fixtures were sometimes called barn lights but were found not only on farms but in factories and warehouses too. Roadside gas stations almost always had a gooseneck warehouse shade lighting up the pumps for motorists, and businesses used these versatile fixtures to showcase their signs and goods for sale.

Located just south of Sydney, the Grounds of Alexandria is a wildly popular cafe and coffee roaster well known for its seven-bean coffee blend and hearty fare. Located in a former pie factory built in the early 1900s, the eatery is an industrial décor lover’s dream.
