Just outside the bustling LBJ Freeway north of Dallas lies a quiet oasis that transports you back to a simpler time. The Farmers Branch Historical Park celebrates the late 19th and early 20th centuries with restored homes, a schoolhouse, log cabins, a museum, and train depot nestled on 27 acres studded with beautiful gardens. The latest addition to the park is the General Store which allows for interpretation of local history with period music, clothing, and food on display for an interactive experience. General stores served as the commercial hub of small towns, and this facility recreates the historical detailing right down to the gooseneck barn lighting on the front porch.

While Key West, Florida, is known for many things, the history of the place is particularly fascinating. Cuba may come to mind when you think of cigar making, but Key West was once considered the cigar capital of the world shipping more than 62 million cigars annually. In the late 1800s, there were more than 80 cigar factories with hundreds of workers living in small conch houses. One of these houses, severely damaged by fire in 2011, was recently rebuilt by today’s Featured Customer Mark who shares with us why he chose gooseneck barn lighting to honor the history of the home.

In yesterday’s blog post we visited a brand new, green-built home in northern New York designed by a couple who were unhappy with renting but didn’t have the finances to buy an expensive, energy-efficient home built to their standards. We took a tour of Jeff and Kalie’s new kitchen where five cord-hung porcelain enamel lights take center stage over the island and countertops. Today, we venture out onto the porch where two more RLM warehouse shades add a bright touch to the front of the home.
