Energy-Smart-Home-Magazine

Within the coastal communities surrounding the Grand Traverse Bay resides a mix of beaches, resorts, and rolling woodlands that weave in and out of the area around Lake Michigan. This densely covered area finds itself in a wash of color throughout the seasons, highlighted during fall by the brightly colored leaves of the maple and spruce trees around the lake. Amidst this serene setting resides an incredible example of a newly constructed energy-efficient modern farmhouse, which combines modern styling with a classic design, creating the perfect platform to experiment in this new hybrid style of design. Although the interior displays a more modern elegance, the exterior of this Michigan home maintains the appearance of a early to mid 20th century farm house. Featured in the winter edition of Energy-Smart Homes, this home displays a large amount energy saving ideas that can be used to transform an ordinary Victorian home into a unique blend of shabby chic and contemporary elegance. Immediately setting this home apart is the vibrant use of complimentary colors, which separates the many angles of this house, providing a split from tradition. The mix of earth tones that adorn the siding on this project act as a catalyst to the red multipurpose rooms and the red barn inspired garage. This garage becomes a focal point at night due to the use of a pair of galvanized 20” Rodeo Warehouse Shades mounted on a matching set of HL-C Gooseneck Arms. Much consideration was taken when designing this home, as seen with how the galvanized lights tie into the tin roof line of this perfectly constructed work of art. This rugged industrial detail not only adds to the exterior appearance of this home, but additionally provides a glimpse to the interior, tying into the modern elements within. It is safe to say that this project was worthy of receiving the attention that Energy-Smart Homes Magazine gave them, and we were excited to see that this type of lighting was considered for this innovative creation.

All Weather Gooseneck Barn Light Rust

A New Look For Wall Mount Lighting For The New Year

All-Weather-Gooseneck-Barn-Light-Rust

The New Year brings a fresh look to our popular line of light commercial fixtures, with an added finish and stylish enhancements to the All Weather Gooseneck Farm Lights, All Weather Farm Light Stem Mount Pendants, and Farm & Barn Cord Hung Pendants. First on the list of additions is the option for a Powder Coat Rust finish, which was previously unavailable on these fixtures, this addition expands the range of finish choices available for these lights. Previously contained to Galvanized, Dark Green, White, and Black, the Powder Coat Rust finish creates a complimentary fixture for homes and barns with cedar siding or reclaimed woods. Possibly the most distinguished improvement to these three fixtures is the extended shade depth, which was increased to make the bulb more recessed and provide a more robust appearance to this shade. This feature also provides a more rustic look than the previous model, creating a more historic, enduring look that was popularized by warehouse shades from the 1940’s. Topping the changes made to this light series is the addition to the Farm & Barn Cord Hung Pendant, which is now available with an all weather cord. This feature allows the light to be mounted in exterior applications or areas that encounter high levels of humidity. This makes it ideal for porches and open air sheds that would like to take advantage of this classic appearance or compliment their cracker house. Regardless of the use or style, each shade recaptures that timeless look that was created for form and function in the mid 20th century.

Rice Cabin Warehouse Shade

Lighting That Maintains A Sustainable Look

Warehouse-Light-Reclaimed-Cabin

The latest trend facing the building community is creating an eco friendly living space out of as many reclaimed materials as possible to reduce waste, and build a unique residence out of these naturally worn items. Contrary to popular belief, going green is not limited to energy efficiency, but also applies to the use of sustainable building materials that may have been recycled from older barns, commercial structures or demolition projects. This not only benefits the environment, but also provides a non-uniform appearance to the exterior or interior of any project. Utilizing this approach, this customer submission benefits from the use of reclaimed wood planks from a 100 year old barn that was recycled to make the walls of this impeccable Washington cabin. With such a spectacular view of the Deschutes National Forrest, creating a unique cabin that equally reflected this breathtaking terrain was a sizable task, but the mixture of rich browns that compose the exterior of this cabin allows it to naturally blend in with the scenic canopy of pine trees in which it is set. The main goal of this project was to utilize as many reclaimed pieces as possible, but the need for more than adequate doorway lighting was needed. This concern prompted the use of an inconspicuous Barn Light Electric favorite, the Artesia Warehouse Shade, a light who’s minimized traditional warehouse shade and large performance creates a warm inviting entrance to this seasonal retreat. Coupled with the sustainable galvanized steel material and soft white glow from the energy efficient compact fluorescent bulb, this timeless shade fits with the rustic integrity of this reclaimed cabin.

Small Everglade Gooseneck Light

A Perennial Favorite

Dark-Green-Everglade-Gooseneck-

Few light fixtures can bridge the gap between different styles to create a genre all its own by taking the classic appearance of lighting from the early 1900’s and mixing modern design elements to make a light that fits within any era. The challenge is taking the most revered forms of the 20th century and blending nontraditional simplified lines seamlessly, to create an aesthetically appealing fixture that does not mar the original reputation of the traditional shade. The finest example of the blending of eras is the Everglade Warehouse Shade, which is identified by the classic flared shade that initially popped up in workshops and barns during the 1930’s and 1940’s. Hoping to add a subtle touch of contemporary flare to this classic warehouse shade, the Everglade is paired with an extended hub and slotted rings, which encompasses the light bulb. The elongated solid upper portion of the hub is separated from the shade by placing it on top of a series of rings, which gives the impression of a free-floating fixture. Due to the ability to see within the center of the light, the use of a jelly jar glass is imperative to complete the overall look and functional purpose to this light fixture. With the combination of these elements and a choice of 38 Gooseneck Arms, the Everglade is a true comprehensive light fixture that would compliment any Victorian, Historic & Colonial Revival, and Arts & Crafts home.

Chisholm Side Garage

A Double Bay Garage With Some Character

Finished Garage Project With Gooseneck Lights

Surrounded by the rustling autumn leaves of New England, within the beautiful rolling hills of Westford, Massachusetts rests one of the most stunning customer projects that we have received. Located north of Concord, this historically enriched community is home to many fresh lakes, budding apple orchards, and one incredible garage. Matching the Colonial style of the main residence, this customer submitted garage spares no expense or detail to create a guest home with every creature comfort imaginable. At first glance the traditional exterior of this twin bay garage would not appear to be abundantly stocked with an impressive amount of amenities, creating a home away from home for any visiting relative stopping by for the holidays. Upon coming up to the driveway your eyes are immediately drawn to the large embossed garage doors that are lit by two of our 12” Original Gooseneck Lights, shown in a black finish, that ties in with the dark colored shingles adding contrast to the yellow siding and white trim. This shade makes an appearance on the adjacent doors and windows that surround this charming Colonial inspired garage. Opting to go with a similar paint scheme on the inside of this converted garage, the owner chose to bring the unmistakable appearance of our warehouse shades to the inside of this dream project to provide a strong contrast to the soft colors of the walls and ceilings. This can be seen through the choice to use our 12” Warehouse Pendants to light the galley kitchen, creating a cohesive blend of elements that were incorporated from the outside. With the need for lighting in tight spaces, this customer decided on the 8” Artesia shade mounted to one of our shortest projecting goosenecks to light the bathroom and stairwell. This allowed the theme to be carried through the interior of the garage, without the concern of the shades protruding out to far and creating an obstacle. Following the stairs to the second story these guests are treated to an impeccably kept red felt pool table that is lit by a custom made 3 light chandelier, which is comprised of our signature warehouse shades connected by a strong rigid stem. The sound construction of this chandelier insures unwavering movement should they receive a knock from a pool cue. With the incorporation of these uniform elements flowing from the exterior and leading all the way through this immaculate garage, the overall appearance created a cheerful home away from home for any visitor fortunate enough to stay in this Colonial masterpiece.
