Gooseneck Barn Lights Replace Boring Builder Fixtures
When Amy and her family moved into their new farmhouse in Hudson, Wisconsin, they loved its rustic “Fixer Upper” style. And while most everything was perfect, Amy was not happy with the small and unappealing outdoor lights installed on the porch.
“We wanted to make more of a statement with our lighting,” Amy says. “The builder ones were rather nondescript.”
The home’s palette is very neutral with lots of natural textures thrown in. Amy searched for more of a classic look as she browsed for new lighting. She spends a lot of time on Pinterest and saved many photos of barn style lighting.
“The most important thing was a vintage look!” she notes. “The lighting truly had to fit our farmhouse style. We also wanted something sturdy as we sit up on a hill and get a lot of wind.”
Amy chose iconic Original™ Warehouse Gooseneck Barn Lights for her home. She ordered five of these American-made beauties and customized them with 12″ shades, a Textured Black finish, and G26 gooseneck arms.
“We wanted a Black finish to add a little pop to the cream colored siding and a larger shade adds interest,” she explains. “The backing plates were already in place, so we needed an arm that kept the bottom of the shade at the same height as the plate so the light wouldn’t hang too low.” Two of the gooseneck barn lights are on the front porch while the other three bring light to the garage. Amy plans to order three more soon for the back of the home.
“The black finish is beautiful!” Amy says. “We love the look and we think they make a great farmhouse statement!”
The Original™ Warehouse shade is one of our most popular styles and is available as a stem mount light, cord hung pendant, and wall sconce and is also available in hand-spun copper and brass.

Great photos!!! True Farmhouse feel. I love the look of the lights and I really am impressed with the front porch flowers. Thank you for sharing.
We agree J.R.! A new farmhouse that incorporates plenty of details that make it look lived-in and comfortable. And that front porch is so inviting!
