Customizable Lighting Complements New Colorado Home
When Allyson and her family discovered the charming town of Bow Mar, Colorado, they fell in love with the quiet country setting full of beautiful trees, a nearby lake, and houses dating back to the 1940s and 50s.
“We spent several years searching for the right opportunity to build,” Allyson says. “Just when we thought it would never happen, it did!” As they planned their new home design, the family wanted to create a space that was open and inviting or, as Allyson adds, “nothing too precious or fussy.” They also desired an original look with one-of-a-kind finds.
“This is one reason we love the customization that Barn Light Electric offers!” Allyson explains. “We wanted to be thoughtful and intentional with our lighting, and Barn Light fixtures are completely customizable down to the last detail. That was very important to us.”
Visitors to the home are greeted in the foyer by The Original™ Stem Mount Pendant. Allyson customized this classic barn pendant light with a generous 24″ shade and a Textured Black finish. She also selected the guard-and-glass option with a wire guard and ribbed glass.
“This is the first light you see coming into our home, and we like the impact it makes without being over the top,” she notes. “When they were installing the light, I had a moment where I was really worried that it was too large for the space. But once it was up, it was absolutely perfect!” Allyson adds that the ribbed glass softens the light, and a dimmer switch helps create a warm glow in the evening and on cloudy days.
For the nearby mudroom, Allyson wanted to echo the design of the entryway on a smaller scale. She chose another Original™ Stem Mount Pendant but customized this fixture with a smaller 16″ shade. She selected the same Textured Black finish but added the acrylic diffuser and hang-straight canopy options.
“We planned to use a bright light in this space to help sort through the mudroom madness, but the diffuser softens it up a bit,” she notes. “And with the sloped ceiling, the hang-straight canopy is the perfect solution.”
The interior stairwell features a white brick wall where the family planned initially to hang artwork. But after installing two Elliptical Sign Lights, they decided to leave the wall as is. The 9″ shades are handspun from commercial-grade aluminum and finished with White powder coat. They are mounted on G14 straight gooseneck arms with a swivel knuckle for precise positioning of the shade.
“We like how these lights are simple and clean and really showcase the white brick going down the stairway,” Allyson explains. “The white fixtures on the white background creates a textured, layered look, and the light just washes over the brick in such a soft and beautiful way!”
