Commercial Lighting Offers Rugged Style to Denver’s Newest Eatery
A hearty “G’day mate!” isn’t quite what you expect in Denver, Colorado, but if you wander through the doors of Chook Chicken, that’s likely what you’ll hear. Chook means “chicken” in Aussie lingo and the owners of this new restaurant have roots in the land Down Under.
Their authentic Australian-style, charcoal-roasted chicken has received rave reviews including being named the Best Fast-Casual Concept Restaurant for 2019.
Chook’s location in the Platte Park neighborhood just south of downtown was renovated to house the new eatery. Founder Adam Schlegel had a strong vision of place, community, and approachable modern fun. He and the ownership team worked with Visual Interest, Barn Light Electric’s commercial representative in Denver, to select lighting to create the space he envisioned.
“We worked through the space with the architects and designers to assess the lighting needs for each area,” notes Lauren Dunn, director of marketing for VI. “We then created photometric layouts based on their selections.”
The neutral palette of black, white, and grey is softened by wood accents in the seating along with a wildly colorful mural near the front of the space. Over the bar, the team selected LED lighting for its environmentally friendly and energy-saving profile.
The Sinclair LED Pendant Lights are customized with 16″ shades and black-and-white cloth cords. The exterior of the shades are White while the interior are Charcoal Granite. The LED features include 1250 lumens with a 2700K color temperature and a domed lens.
The porcelain enamel finish on these handcrafted shades will stand up to commercial traffic for years to come. The high-gloss finish will never fade and is easy to clean with mild soap and water.
On nearby walls, the team selected a complementary Sinclair Stem Mount Pendant but chose to mount these on the wall for a unique look. The flush mount option keeps the fixture snug against the wall while a half-chrome bulb adds another layer of interest as it reflects the surrounding space.
These 16″ flush-mount lights are finished in the same White exterior/Charcoal Granite interior color scheme as the bar pendants.
The eye-catching mural near the front of the space presented a challenge for lighting. Instead of pendants that compete with the wall, the Downtown Minimalist Cord Hung Pendant offers the perfect amount of light to the tables without obstructing the view.
These bare-bulb pendants are not without their own style as they are customized with Charcoal Granite cups and black-and-white cloth cords to add a hint of color and texture.
Outside, patrons are welcomed to Chook’s striking black exterior by a compact Bowie Wall Sconce. The 8″ shade offers plenty of light to the simple front door while the Textured Black finish complements the exterior siding.
