Clean Lines, Warm Woods Highlight California Bungalow Renovation
When Cole and Julie set about renovating and remodeling their 1922 Craftsman bungalow in Orange County, California, they sought to honor the roots of the home while adding a touch of farmhouse style with updated colors, materials, and lighting.
“We wanted to go with a classic, farmhouse style,” Cole says. “We looked for American-made lighting with a large selection of easy-to-customize fixtures.” The couple’s online search landed them at Barn Light Electric.
For their kitchen island, Cole and Julie fell in love with the Loma Pendant Light. They customized these handcrafted fixtures with 12″ shades, a White powder coat finish on the exterior, and a Raw Brass finish for a splash of color on the interior.
“We went with the 12″ shade because we have a small kitchen,” Cole explains. “And we have brass throughout the house so the brass interior helps it all flow together.”
Just off the living room nearby, the half bath also underwent a refresh. The couple chose the Dino Pendant Light to hang from the sloped wooden ceiling. This handspun 12″ shade is customized with a creamy, porcelain enamel Jadite finish and a black-and-gold cloth cord. Cole admits to choosing the customizing options on this fixture himself.
“My wife hates color and fun, so I did it without her knowing so I can get a little bit of color in the house,” he says laughing.
For the master bathroom, Cole and Julie turned to Barn Light’s Timber & Ore Collection where they discovered the Downtown Minimalist Wooden Socket Pendant to be the perfect accent for the vanity. Our talented woodworkers crafted the sockets for these pendants from solid Ash. The assembly team then added the black cloth cords that the couple chose from among the 22 cording options. The cloth cords add a soft touch of texture and contrast the light wood tones of the socket, mirrors, and ceiling.
