Ceiling Fans Lend Cool, Modern Touch to Texas Space

Lots of light and a stunning view of the Texas Hill Country are the main features of this beautiful space which includes an elongated kitchen, dining area, and living room. The floor-to-ceiling windows on the left give a real sense of being outdoors and on the right, the counter running the length of the room provides plenty of work space above and storage space below. Although one long, open space, each area is neatly defined with the placement of furniture, and both table and floor lamps provide ambient lighting to complement all of the natural light. Keeping the Texas heat at bay are two sleek modern ceiling fans, much like our Zonix Ceiling Fan, with a finish to match the stainless kitchen appliances.

Glass Shade Pendant Adds Vintage Charm to Lakeside Cottage

vintage_pendant_ruffled_satin_glass_kitchen.jpgArchitects see it all the time. A classic but tired structure has outlived its usefulness, and the owners want a new building on the same spot. Such was the case on Maine’s sparkling Sebago Lake where a new camp would rise on the existing footprint of the old. The owners wanted a modest yet upscale, 3-bedroom getaway in 1,400 square feet of living space. Views of the lake were paramount while still maintaining privacy. Read More »

Porcelain Cord-Hung Pendant Brings Vintage Touch to Kitchen

Another design trend we see popping up everywhere from farmhouses to seaside cottages to downtown lofts is the use of subway tiles. Subway tile originated from the white porcelain tiles that were installed in the New York subway system as far back as 1904. Subway tiles are characterized by their rectangular shape and a staggered application like a brick wall. The tiles come in a wide variety of colors, materials, and even sizes although traditional subway tiles measure 3 x 6 inches. Subway tiles were quite popular in the early 1900s, and like all things vintage, subway tiles are making a roaring comeback.

Vintage Cone Shaped Pendant Adds Flair to British Kitchen

vintage_cased_cone_shade_pendant.jpgIf you were browsing the Porcelain Blog last week, you might recognize the unusual paint scheme in this kitchen. The color of the lower cabinetry continues above the oak countertops lending an unusual visual treat. We featured a shot of a deep bowl porcelain pendant in that particular blog, but today we’re focusing on the vintage pendant overhanging the kitchen table. This space was created with a royal’s touch as none other than Prince Charles himself collaborated with the company Plain English to design this model home for last year’s Ideal Home Show in London. The Prince apparently is an avid supporter of sustainable living, and he worked with Plain English to create a lower cost version of this line of finely crafted, glazed wall cabinetry. Read More »

Porcelain Deep Bowl Pendants for Rustic Mountain Cabin

Just a couple of days ago, we featured a cabin in our Industrial Farmhouse blog that was built using the latest advances in green building. Many architects, builders, and developers in western North Carolina participate in the North Carolina Healthy Built Homes Program which certifies homes that reduce energy and water usage, promote renewable energy use, help protect the land and natural resources, and reduce pollution and waste during the manufacturing and construction phases. This home, located in Black Mountain, was built by Earthtone Builders and achieved a “Gold” certification. It features passive solar, radiant floor heat, solar hot water, non-toxic finishes, locally sourced wood, bamboo floors, and Energy Star appliances.

Black Porcelain Pendant Subtle Yet Elegant Touch in Kitchen

Sometimes simple is best. Classic color schemes like in this black-and-white kitchen and dining area provide a clean and uncomplicated palette upon which to build. The black accents and white walls are enlivened by the splash of color on the dining room table. The open framework between these two areas provides structure yet allows your eye to wander from the dining room to the kitchen where you can keep an eye on the cook. And the classic black porcelain warehouse shades hanging above provide a subtle and elegant touch without overpowering the space.
