Barn Pendant Lights for a Historical Farm House Renovation

barn_light_glass_shades_kitchen.jpgWhen you live in a place that saw settlers as early as the 1600s and your own home is more than 100 years old, you feel a sense of responsibility to respect the history and vernacular of the place. Especially when remodeling! Our friends at the design firm of Schappacher White Ltd., in Lower Manhatten, recently undertook the full renovation of a 1904 farmhouse on Shelter Island located at the eastern end of Long Island. The renovation included an addition, swimming pool, and site planning. The goal was to use as many reclaimed materials as possible along with modern pieces that would layer the history of the space with today’s amenities. The kitchen boasts a traditional farmhouse feel with open shelving, white beadboard cabinetry, wood floors, and two delicate barn pendants highlighting the center island.

Schoolhouse Shades Lend Texas-Sized Style to Austin Kitchen

We love hearing from our customers about their home improvement and construction projects. One comment we hear quite often these days is that when building or buying a brand new home, homeowners strive to create a house with the character that is more often found in older homes. That effortless, lived-in look of a house that just belongs on a piece of land and has been graced with thoughtful touches from the past. Such is this shotgun-style home in an historic neighborhood in south Austin, Texas. Though new construction, the kitchen gives a definite nod to history in a space filled with vintage details.

Porcelain Pendants Make Colorful Splash Down Under

The question keeps cropping up — do we sell our fabulous barn lights in Australia? Of course we do! And one of our recent customers Down Under was delighted with her choice of three Ivanhoe® Union Porcelain Pendants for her kitchen. Kathy’s home in western Australia was undergoing some major remodeling, including a change in the floor plan that transformed a kitchen into two bathrooms and a living area into a bedroom. She also added on a large room which features a new open-plan kitchen, dining and living area.

Industrial Barn Lights Shine in a Rustic Industrial Kitchen

Nothing says safe and secure like massive stone walls. A blizzard could be raging outside these windows and you would be all warm and cozy here in the kitchen with a bowl of hot soup and crusty bread sitting at the kitchen island crafted from smooth, reclaimed wood. This kitchen has many great farmhouse touches from the distressed cabinets and old fashioned hardware to the exposed, rough hewn beams in the ceiling down to the copper sink that adds a bit of a rustic glow to the room. Antiques look great with the industrial farmhouse style and this homeowner went right back to the 1930s to find appropriate lighting for this space.

Barn Wall Sconce Brings Relaxed Style to Busy Kitchen

barn_wall_sconce_kitchen_lighting.jpg

When you have a bunch of kids in the house, the kitchen tends to be the magnet area where homework gets tackled, snacks are served, and the family just seems to congregate at the end of a long day. A space filled with light and warmth makes the kitchen attractive and the smell of brownies floating down the hallway doesn’t hurt either! We visited this kitchen once before in our Industrial Farmhouse blog, but we didn’t give you the full picture of the kitchen entryway which features a dandy little barn wall sconce that highlights not only the doorway but the chalkboard wall that serves as place for impromptu notes and reminders. The galvanized sconce fits right in with the barn pendants and gooseneck lighting in the kitchen proper.

Barn Light Industrial Pendant for a Bright, Modern Kitchen

Sliding barn doors, once useful mainly for keeping the horses in the stalls, are finding their way into homes everywhere from uptown Manhatten to the outskirts of Omaha. These doors add dimension and a touch of vernacular and, like this beautiful slider, keep the pantry shelves concealed with ease. We love the rustic look of the door’s styling against the bright white palette of this kitchen. Adding an industrial touch to the lighting scheme are sleek, deep bowl pendants overhanging the island. These pendants are much like our Industrial Uplight Pendant, part of our collection of Barn Pendant lighting.
