In the early 1900s the Arts & Crafts Movement was a direct reflection of English architectural design, which culminated in the creation of this new decorative style that focused on simple yet elegant building elements. Barn Light Electric Vintage Industrial Cloth Cord Pendants

Reviving The Nostalgia Of Vintage Industrial Work Lighting

Barn-Light-Electric-Vintage-Industrial-Cloth-Cord-Pendants.png

The lighting in factories and manufacturing facilities of the early 1900’s was simplistic and functional, based primarily on low hanging trouble lights with protective wire guards that encased the bulb. This raw, simplistic design enabled a large amount of atmospheric lighting to spill out over workbenches and assembly lines in these industrial settings. With the development of traditional warehouse RLM lighting in the 1930’s, these typical lights were ultimately phased out in many facilities for reflective warehouse shades. In a sweeping attempt to recapture the simplistic nature of the Second Industrial Revolution, many homeowners and designers are turning to the minimalistic lights of the past to bring a unique retro personality to their projects. Reflecting this simplified mantra, the latest line of Vintage Industrial Ceiling Lighting captures the stripped down appearance of factory lighting that predates the great depression. Outfitted with a stem or twisted cotton cord, the lights in this section provide a rustic alternative to many of the mass-produced contemporary lights on the market. Used to highlight displays or supply ornamental decoration, the utility of these lights often leads to creative placement and uses. Whether outfitted with a wire cage or bare socket these vintage reproductions capture the spirit of the Industrial Era, delivering a touch of nostalgia with unique simple styling.

The Industrial Era Is Reborn With This Vintage Pendant

The pursuit to create classic lighting from remnants of the past, reflecting a vintage industrial influence with historic charm, remains as the main objective here at Barn Light Electric. While providing the highest level of quality, our American made lighting draws inspiration from light designs originally manufactured in the early to mid 1900’s, recreating a period of innovation and creativity. The Second Industrial Revolution saw truly creative lighting designs developed for manufacturing facilities, shops, and factories that focused on maximum performance and simplified elegance. Representative of this movement, the Minimalist Copper Cage Pendant personifies the simplistic beauty of this genre through the single copper socket design and optional cage that surrounds the bulb. This vintage throwback is reminiscent of many of the factory ceiling and desk lights that were outfitted with an encapsulated wire cage that served as a protecting feature in an industrial setting. Another unique difference that differs from its predecessor is that the socket and canopy on the Minimalist Copper Pendant is composed of copper instead of brass. Replacing the solid flexible conduit and single rubber electrical cord is a cotton twist cord, which provides a stylistic difference to the traditional way in which this light was originally hung. Adding the finishing touch to this fixture is the ability to use a Nostalgic Edison Bulb with a squirrel cage filament, completing the historic appearance of this pendant.

Emblem Gooseneck Sign Light

Streamlined Gooseneck Sign Lighting Gains Mass Acclaim

Emblem-Gooseneck-Sign-Light

The typical use of sign lighting is to illuminate signs and awnings, with the hope of business owners bringing extra attention to their businesses. In the past choices were limited to one or two sign lighting styles that not always represented the overall exterior appearance of these buildings, but desire for something different persisted due to the increased want and need for more sign light designs tailored for specific building types. With architecture ever evolving, designs were needed for existing historical buildings as well as modern structures. Echoing some of the shared elements of these buildings, the creation of the Emblem Shade carries over an organic appearance that is provided through the use of rounded shapes and a slim low profile. Although fitting of a modern structure, the retro compact appearance of the Emblem Gooseneck Sign Light harks back to the Art Deco and Streamline Modern movements of the early to mid 20th century that emphasized rounded forms and function. This Architectural RLM benefits from a unique design that places the bulb high within the slanted upper dome of the Emblem’s directional shade, which collects the light created by a choice of standard incandescent, CFL, or HID lighting. When combined with a large selection of gooseneck arms and premium finishes, the timelessness and versatility of the Emblem Shade becomes more apparent through its unparalleled, universal design.

Polished Aluminum Atomic Industrial Sconce

Going Retro With A Vintage Industrial Light

Wall-Mounted-Double-Atomic-Sconce

At the start of the roaring twenties a new era of design ushered in a radical type of style, the Art Deco Movement used sleek simplified forms throughout its architecture and lighting. This popular movement came to an end in the 1950’s, where the Atomic Age began. Gone were the smooth aircraft inspired shapes that drove the Art Deco Movement; replacing them were raw industrial elements such as rivets, guards, and heavy-duty cast aluminum casings. This industrial style became popular around docks and fall out shelters due to their rugged, durable appearance. The rustic charm of the Industrial Age resurfaces in this recent incarnation of styling from the mid 20th century. Coupled with a timeless appearance, the Wall Mount WCGU Sconce combines function and style to create a truly versatile light. Utilizing a twin glass setup and matching wire guards, the Wall Mount WCGU Sconce provides ample light through a choice of two jelly jar glasses that can be customized with your choice of 8 glass options. Adding to the look of this light, several finishes are available to transform this light into a fitting piece of nostalgic history that matches your home or office. Not limited to industrial settings; this sconce gives a unique retro look to any bedroom, bathroom, or hallway with one flip of the switch.
