Industrial & Deep Bowl Pendants Star in DIY’s House Crashers

barn_light_industrial_pendant1.jpgSpending the day parked at the barbeque with a frosty drink in one hand may seem the quintessential thing to do on Memorial Day, but in Antelope, California, the day means much more than what’s sizzling on the grill. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4647 will honor the sacrifices of many with their traditional Memorial Day parade and wind up back at the post to swap stories and welcome new friends. The celebration this year will be extra special as the post canteen (that’s the bar in military lingo) recently underwent a major transformation thanks to House Crashers Host Josh Temple, shown here, and his crew from the DIY Network. Barn Light Electric was proud to pitch in and help our fellow veterans by providing some updated lighting for their new space.

Gooseneck Warehouse Shades Add Security with Style

Choosing security lighting for a business can be daunting with endless choices in fixtures, types of bulbs, and energy saving features to consider. Some people think brighter is better and choose the biggest lights they can find to light up everything within three city blocks. Yet using extra bright lights is actually discouraged by security experts. The problem with these fixtures is that the glare they produce actually prevents you, or the passing patrol car, to see clearly when trying to spot potential intruders. Bright lights create deep shadows where prowlers and plunderers can hide. Outdoor lighting fixtures are best placed so the light is cast downwards onto the sidewalk, doorway, or surface below. This also prevents light from spilling to your neighbor’s windows which is most unneighborly indeed!

Porcelain Warehouse Shades for Unusual German Market

Ever have one of those hectic nights when you don’t feel like cooking yet the same old takeout just won’t satisfy that craving for a home-cooked meal? A clever concept was launched in Berlin back in late 2010 that left many people wondering — why didn’t I think of that? The owners describe Kochhaus as a “walk-in cookbook” where customers choose dinner from illustrated recipes hanging throughout the store then select premeasured ingredients off the shelves. Voila! Homecooked meals with no missing spices and no hassle in the kitchen. Not surprisingly, Berliners took to the concept immediately prompting the opening of two more locations in Hamburg and Berlin.

Vintage Warehouse Shades for Rustic East Village Eatery

When the creators of the Northern Spy Food Company opened their doors three years ago, they wanted to bring a bit of country charm straight to the urban heart of New York City. A small neighborhood restaurant located in the East Village, the eatery is named after one of New York State’s classic heirloom apples. The restaurant’s design embraces the concept of using reclaimed materials, and you can see the effects from floor to ceiling. Customers stroll on reclaimed hickory boards, the old brick walls are painted white to breathe air into the space, a pillar wrapped in rope has a rustic feel, the retail cubbies are crafted from an old chicken coop, and the dining room tables are made from salvaged bowling alley lanes. East Village residents have never seen anything quite like this, and they can’t seem to get enough!
