Bright, Energetic Colors Add Splash of Midcentury Fun to Hotel Remodel
Families flock to Florida year after year thanks to our abundant year-round sunshine, white sandy beaches, and endless array of activities. Choices for lodging are as varied as the theme parks, and range from five-star hotels to mom-and-pop motels along A1A.
Just a few miles south of Barn Light Electric, an older hotel recently underwent an extensive renovation in Cocoa Beach. Under the talented eye of Angela Reed, senior associate with Baker Barrios Architects, Inc., the Beachside Hotel & Suites has been restored to its former glory. Built in 1965, the hotel’s old bones have new life with a remodeled lobby, updated guest rooms, and a new courtyard and lazy river.
“Our team wanted to celebrate the property’s midcentury roots with a lively, boho beach feel,” Angela says. “The interior is eclectic, colorful, and attainable for guests looking for both a budget- and family-friendly property.”
The remodel of the public areas, including the lobby and business center, was extensive as most of the interior was gutted. When Angela began her search for new lighting for these public spaces, color was the number one criteria.
“We wanted energetic, yet soft, colorways for the fixtures,” she explains. Thanks to Barn Light’s extensive palette of finishes, Angela found the perfect blend of energy and playful color.
She selected the Downtown Minimalist 5-Light Chandelier, in a lively Watermelon finish, to highlight the renovated front desk area and welcome visitors with a fun, unique look.
“I like its contemporary and coastal take on a Sputnik-styled pendant,” Angela notes. “This is one of our favorite pieces!”
To complement these chandeliers, Angela added the Bubble Stem Mount Pendant Light, one of Barn Light’s newest fixtures. She selected White glass and a Mint finish for these mid century-style ceiling lights. This glass style softens the illumination slightly imbuing the space with warmth.
For the nearby business center, the same combination of pendants adds a happy and relaxed vibe for the poor souls who must work while staying at the hotel.
“The colors are so bright and fresh,” Angela says. “These fixtures fit the concept of the space beautifully!”
