Barn Pendant Lights for a Historical Farm House Renovation
When you live in a place that saw settlers as early as the 1600s and your own home is more than 100 years old, you feel a sense of responsibility to respect the history and vernacular of the place. Especially when remodeling! Our friends at the design firm of Schappacher White Ltd., in Lower Manhatten, recently undertook the full renovation of a 1904 farmhouse on Shelter Island located at the eastern end of Long Island. The renovation included an addition, swimming pool, and site planning. The goal was to use as many reclaimed materials as possible along with modern pieces that would layer the history of the space with today’s amenities. The kitchen boasts a traditional farmhouse feel with open shelving, white beadboard cabinetry, wood floors, and two delicate barn pendants highlighting the center island.
These pendants look much like our Barn Light Homestead Pendant, a classic, glass shade pendant that will bring a vintage touch to any space. At 10″ wide and 8″ high, the Homestead is a great choice for kitchen islands, over the sink, or perhaps in a reading nook. This fixture comes in five different shade choices including Clear Ribbed Glass, Milk Glass, or a beautiful vintage Green Glass. The cup can be finished in one of more than 12 finish colors so you can keep a traditional look with Black or White or go with something a little jazzier such as Barn Red, Industrial Grey, or Royal Blue. This American-made light can be hung with either a standard black or white cord and it can handle up to a 200 watt bulb.
If you’re opting for a vintage look, be sure to check out our sister website at Vintage Barn Lighting where you will find an extensive collection of Glass Shade Pendants including Milk Glass Shades, Holpohane Glass, and Cased Glass.
