Let’s start with that RLM notation. Customers often ask what that means, so here’s a quick explanation. It originally stood for reflector light microscopy, but today it is understood to mean reflector luminaire manufacturer. These retro-style shades are patterned after the deep bowls favored by factories back in the early 20th century because they cast light downward onto work surfaces. Today, those of us interested in minimizing light pollution also favor these shades because they are dark sky friendly.
