Denver is a city known for its sports teams, snow-covered slopes, and booming economy. You may think that all homes are fashioned in the manner of ski lodges, but that’s not always the case. While today’s featured customer, Angie, draws from a few rustic influences, her dining room is ultra stylish and trendy.
For those living in rural areas, the majority of your time is spent outdoors. On occasion, that includes getting dirty, muddy, and sometimes just plain filthy. Rubber boots, like the pairs seen in the photo, are the shoe of choice and entryways become a catch all for the mud and the muck. Think back to the 1970’s and what comes to mind? Is it green shag carpet, wood paneling, or episodes of The Brady Bunch? More than likely all three things will give you a flash back, and (unfortunately) some of the original decor still remains in homes today. It’s a good thing though that ranch style floor plans are so popular today, as renovating one could prove to be a smart move. The kitchen today was formerly outdated, although Alice may have still enjoyed it. The homeowners wished to create a “rustic-modern” space, full of textured and distressed woods and new appliances.

Think back to a few years ago. Do you remember the show “Sell This House?” Yeah, it’s that one where they stage homes for sale in order to get them…well, sold. The show was hosted and produced by none other than Roger Hazard, declared as “TV’s original home stager.” Along with his husband, Chris, they have since then developed a successful design firm titled, Design Hazards. Kitchen remodels range in difficulty. It could be a matter of simply painting and replacing cabinet hardware, or it could be the complete opposite and involve knocking down walls and starting from scratch. Today’s featured customer, Sharon from Mendicino, California, went through with the latter in her remodel. There was no hope for her previous kitchen really. A tight “U” shape wasn’t efficient or roomy, and it kind of evoked claustrophobia onto anybody who entered.
