American B&B Owners Add Vintage Industrial Lighting to French Rental

From time to time, we do see an example of classic, American inspired lighting seen in a foreign country. It usually brings the question to mind whether the place in question is owned by natives to the aforementioned land, or designed by an American transplant; somebody looking forward to an overseas escape. Well, in regards to this home, we have a clear answer. Formulated by a husband and wife design team from the Maine area, they took their talents to a small town in Provence to expand their already successful Bed and Breakfast concept: The Marston House.

Featured Customer | Q&A on New Coastal Style Home in Kansas!?

They say “follow your dreams” but what if your dream house is a coastal cottage and the closest ocean is more than 1,400 miles away? That minor detail didn’t stop Sheila Krehbiel and her husband from building their Hamptons-style house in the middle of Kansas, a state more known for wheat, sunflowers, and Toto. The house is still in progress but the couple recently installed The Original Warehouse Shade on the exterior. More warehouse shades and some ceiling fans are currently going up inside and we’ll check those out soon!

Rustic Pendant Lighting Dresses Up the Market Center

In yesterday’s blog we found some tasteful rustic sconces and gooseneck angle shades at the Market Center located in historic Biltmore Village just outside the gates of the Biltmore mansion, the largest home ever built in America. When George Vanderbilt created his vast estate in Asheville, North Carolina he also built a peaceful community just outside the gates to complement his landholdings and to supply a source of rental income. Today, Biltmore Village offers an array of shopping and dining establishments including one of the most elegant McDonald’s restaurants in the world featuring a grand player piano, vaulted ceilings, and fireplaces. The golden arches are actually golf leaf! blue_collar_pendant_angle_shades_commercial.jpg

Professional’s Corner | Q&A with VAI Studio in Hawaii

In the tiny village of Olowalu on the island of Maui, a casual roadside café called Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop opened last November. With the style of an old plantation store, Leoda’s serves sandwiches, sweet and savory pies, fresh-baked breads, and salads made from local ingredients. The remodeled space was created by Jeremy Stoddart, project manager for VAI Studio. In addition to using reclaimed and recycled materials throughout, Jeremy chose a variety of barn lights, porcelain warehouse shades, rustic sconces, and commercial grade ceiling fans from Barn Light Electric to create the warm and welcoming atmosphere at Leoda’s.

Versatile Barn Pendant for Shaker Style Kitchen

barn_pendant_kitchen.jpgSome spaces just cry out for a barn pendant. Yes, we’re biased, but this cottage in western Maine, designed by John Cole, is a beautiful example of how choosing the right style of light can provide the perfect finishing touch to a room. Here in this cozy kitchen, reclaimed barn timbers in the exposed framing and locally milled fir flooring and trim create a warm, inviting feel to the space. Hanging above the table is a pendant very similar to Barn Light Electric’s Homestead Pendant, an American made fixture that represents a style of lighting first used in factories and warehouses in the early 20th century.

Barn Light Sconces Light Up Inn’s Walkways and Gardens

In last Thursday’s blog, we took you 3,600 feet up into the Blue Ridge Mountains to the High Hampton Inn where rustic, shingle-style buildings are nestled against a backdrop of lush greenery, a sparkling lake, and the rolling greens of the golf course. Gardens abound throughout the 1,400-acre property and pathways meander along with no particular place to go. Visitors find numerous places to sit and ponder such wonders as the world’s largest fraser fir tree. Even after dark, you can stroll the grounds with ease thanks to miniature barn sconces that are placed low to the ground to softly illuminate the paths.
