Abundant Customizing Options Create Optimal Outdoor Lighting

Living at the lake can be a dream come true. Beautiful views and water access right out the door create an idyllic place to live and play. Dawn and her family found the perfect spot on Lake Maxinkukee in Culver, Indiana, but the older home they purchased was in such poor shape, so they decided to start fresh.

“The build came with many challenges as we are only five feet from the shoreline, and the code required us to build on the exact footprint of the existing home,” Dawn says. “We wanted the look of a Craftsman-style home with dark blue siding and white trim.” The street side of the home features a covered front porch while the lake side has a wraparound deck. Floor-to-ceiling windows and bifold doors help bring the lake views inside the two-story great room.

When searching for new outdoor lighting, Dawn wanted the charm of a gooseneck, farmhouse-style light. While she found photos on Pinterest that she liked, she struggled to find high-quality lights with plenty of customizing options to create the exact look she envisioned.

“All I could find were lower quality lights or very pricey ones with few options,” she explains. “I knew we needed exterior lights that could hold up not only to our harsh Indiana winters, but also to humid lake conditions.” Dawn was thrilled when she stumbled upon the Barn Light Electric website and discovered an extensive collection of American-made lights with an endless array of customizing options.

“I was simply blown away by all the different styles, then add to that the customizable options, and I was sold!” she notes. “The website is extremely intuitive and so easy to navigate. I love how once I chose a style, I was able to easily customize it step-by-step, and each step was so easy to understand.”

Dawn chose the Chestnut Gooseneck Light for the exterior of her new home. She customized these handcrafted lights with 16″ shades, a White powder coat finish, and G15 Galvanized gooseneck arms.

“We chose the Chestnut because we thought it had a little bit of nautical flair, and also because the style fits best on the front porch flanking the doors,” Dawn explains. “I wanted to make sure our fixtures would stand out and make a statement, so I wanted them to be substantial in size but not overwhelming.” The couple chose the White powder coat finish to pop against the dark blue siding of the home. The galvanized gooseneck arm brings a touch of rustic charm and contrast plus adds dimension to the fixtures.

“Barn Light’s customer service was awesome in helping me make the customizing decisions,” she adds. “We are thrilled with them.” For two of the fixtures, Dawn chose a G64 chain-supported gooseneck arm. She discovered the style in a Barn Light blog post which featured Shauna’s gorgeous home in Colorado Springs. Dawn loved the look so much, she duplicated it on her own home.

“Our Chestnut lights have so much style and personality. I think of them as jewelry for our home!” Dawn says. “They are not only beautiful but fabulously functional. These fixtures provide wonderful lighting around the house making it not only aesthetically pleasing but also providing a level of comfort and safety at night.”
