HartLand Tour Part Two: Handcrafted Fixtures Brighten Interior Spaces
If you missed our blog post on Monday, be sure to pop over and check out the lovely setting known as HartLand. Monica’s four gables farmhouse in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, was recently completed, but it features such classic details that many people often mistake it for a renovated older home.
Monday’s post explored the exterior and Monica’s selection of galvanized Laramie Wall Sconces and Gooseneck Lights for the garage and porches. Today, we take a peek at some of the interior details.
The kitchen is often the heart of the home and, for Monica’s family, the kitchen is a hub of activity centered on a generous 7-foot island. Monica chose two Bomber Pendant Lights to highlight the space.
“I love the simplicity of the Bomber Pendants,” she says. “The are the perfect complement to our white farmhouse kitchen and really pull together the look. We have a lot of simple straight lines, and the Bomber Pendants go so well.” Monica customized these pendants with 17″ shades handspun from solid steel, a porcelain enamel White finish, and standard white cords.
“The bright white shade and cord set off the Palladian blue island and the profusion of colors in our kitchen. White is the perfect foil to our pastels and creates an airy Scandinavian look,” she explains. “They look fantastic centered perfectly over the island.”
In the nearby pantry and laundry room, Monica chose a classic RLM-style fixture in the Dino Pendant Light. She customized these American-made pendants with 14″ shades, a creamy Jadite porcelain enamel finish, and standard white cords.
“The Jadite color of the pendants goes so well with my aqua laundry room cabinets,” she notes. “Combined with the wall color, these blue-greens are all different but blend beautifully. I absolutely love my Dino Pendants in this room.”
Just off the kitchen is a small mudroom that Monica admits to using more than anyone in the house. Just off the side porch, the space is illuminated by a Rochester Vintage Industrial Cord Hung Pendant. Monica notes that while she doesn’t like to overdo the industrial touches, this pendant plays well with the aqua floral bench design and keeps the space from looking “too cute.” The fixture is customized with a 14″ shade, porcelain White finish, Galvanized cast guard, and frosted glass.
“The 14″ shade is ideal for this little area, and the Galvanized guard ties so beautifully to our other finishes both inside and out,” she explains. “We essentially have no black at all in our home so repeating the silver, stainless, and galvanized finishes everywhere ties it all together like a neat little package.”
Upstairs, the guest bathroom gets a dose of schoolhouse charm from a pair of Primary Schoolhouse Chain Hung Pendants. These period-authentic pendants feature small opaque glass, a Delphite Blue fitter and triple painted bands. A standard white cord winds its way through the chain for a hint of vintage flair.
“I chose the schoolhouse fixtures because they are just so pretty!” Monica notes. “The triple band gives the glass some interest and the Delphite Blue complements the fabric on the stool. Together, they are a match made in heaven!” Like all of the Barn Light Electric fixtures, the Schoolhouse Pendants are easy to customize with glass size, fitter, chain and canopies finishes, plus cord and LED options.
“I love every single thing about my Barn Light fixtures!” Monica says. “I love the style, the fresh colors, and most of all, the ability to customize them to fit every part of my home. I have almost every light in the house on dimmers, and I turn them all on at night. What a cozy feeling!”
