Fluted Shade Pendants Add Fun Wave to Kitchen Reno

One of the renovation trends we see quite often here on the blog is the creation of an open floor plan. Homeowners rearrange furniture, change up cabinetry, and even knock down walls to combine kitchen, living, and dining areas more suitable for entertaining and family living.

Debbie describes her southern California bungalow/farmhouse as “fairly small” and opening up the floor plan was something she wanted to do for years.

“I wanted a more open approach to the layout between the kitchen, dining, and living rooms,” Debbie says. “Since this area of California gets very warm much of the year, I wanted cool colors, white cabinets, and light countertops.” Debbie also wanted ceiling lights that complemented the cool feel of the kitchen but that were reasonably priced.

“I saw a pendant lamp with a wavy shade and that was it!” she says. “The hunt began and I found Barn Light Electric.” Debbie fell in love with the Fluted Shade Stem & Loop Pendant and its fun wavy shade. Two of these American-made pendants highlight her new peninsula and one brings light to the kitchen sink.

Debbie customized these ceiling lights with 10″ shades, a Galvanized finish, and Black cotton twist cord. The 18″ stem is finished in Nickel with a Nickel knob switch.

“I planned to use cord lights, but I thought the nickel finish enhanced the gray and silver in the shade and also matched the chrome and stainless in the kitchen” she explains. “It also made the lights more substantial and notable in the space.” The unique cord-plus-stem mounting of this fixture offers an eye-catching twist on a traditional cord mount.

“There are a lot of white kitchens out there, but these lights add to the style of my home,” Debbie says. “The really provide a vintage look that I love!”
