Featured Customer | Vintage Schoolhouse Fixture Completes Art Studio Bath Space
With a self-professed addiction to flea markets, antique shops, and Craigslist, Santa Ana resident Khanh has accumulated all sorts of vintage treasures throughout the years. Not surprisingly, her home is a 1931 English Tudor. A studio was added in 2004 that matches the home’s style and included a half bath that was never completed by the original owner. Khanh recently tackled the completion of this space to include some vintage schoolhouse lighting.
“The studio bath was a blank canvas when we bought the house in 2010,” she says. “It’s been used as a storage room since then.” Since the main house lighting is mostly Art Deco, Khanh wanted to carry the same theme into the studio but make it more casual since it’s an art studio and hang-out space. She selected the Intermediate Schoolhouse Semi-Flush Mount Light in a small size and customized the fixture with a Galvanized fitter and canopy plus a single Black painted band as an accent.
“We were thrilled to find the custom options at Barn Light Electric,” Khanh says. “It’s old school but with the modern industrial, younger look. The mixture of galvanized and porcelain white glass with the black trim is sophisticated but casual.” With a variety of finish options available including six vivid band colors, this classic light can take on any number of decorating styles with its timeless appeal.
“We had a small budget with our bathroom so the light and the floor tiles were our splurge,” Khanh notes. “The light just makes the room especially with that beautiful blue floor!” She already has her eye on other spaces in her California home that might need some updating soon.
“We love all the lights from Barn Light Electric,” Khanh says. “You have amazing products, it’s a great story behind the company, and we love that the lights are made in the good old USA. We hope to have more of your lights throughout the years as we update our house.”

Gorgeous project! Love the use of the ceiling light… it’s the “icing on the cake” 🙂
Thanks for your comment Robin. Khanh did a great job pulling this small space together and packing it full of charm!

Large Glass: H 8 ¼” x Dia 14″ Large Fixture Dimensions: W 12″ x H 16″

I’m looking for a LED schoolhouse semi flush mount light that would provide enough light for a small powder room (sink and toilet, no bath, no shower) about 6 feet x 5 feet. Which midel do you recommend?
Hi Nicole,
You can find all of our LED Schoolhouse Lights at this link — http://www.barnlightelectric.com/led/barn-lighting-led/schoolhouse-led/ The Intermediate Schoolhouse Semi-Flush Mount is probably your best bet if you want the traditional opaque globe. If you prefer clear glass, go with the Principal which is also a semi flush mount. You can choose either a small or large globe — dimensions shown below:
Small Glass: H 6 ½” x Dia. 10″ Small Fixture Dimensions: W 10″ x H 14″
Large Glass: H 8 ¼” x Dia 14″ Large Fixture Dimensions: W 12″ x H 16″
We also have a semi flush mount in copper — the Schoolhouse Copper has opaque glass and the Clear Schoolhouse Copper has the clear glass.
